Hi, I'm Robin! I write high-concept screenplays based on intriguing characters, powerful relationships and great dialogue. Star Wars and Star Trek didn't become juggernauts because George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry were the first to imagine what life on other planets might look like, they endured because they started with great characters.
From E.T. to The Breakfast Club, The Office to Stranger Things, the stories we remember, the ones we gather together to talk about always have the most memorable characters. We talk about them like we know them - because we do. Leslie Knope is a real person, right?
My Philosophy
Things that make you go "hmmmm"...
While there's nothing wrong with stories that are just pure entertainment - we all need a good belly laugh now and then - I want to create stories that make people think deeply about life and the world around them.
Global warming, climate change, increased industrialization, what are the solutions? Crime, justice, racism, social justice? These are big problems that none of us feel we have the answers to, but creating conversations around them might be the start that actually does lead to change.
Media that moves the needle
I worked in unscripted narrative for five years, and walked away broken and disillusioned. I realized that form of media was not what I wanted to invest my time, my energy and my life in, but I didn't know what I did want to invest those things in.
I believe deeply in the power of drama to create change, and I want to create things that inspire people to dream of a better world and have genuine conversations about what that might look like. Movies and media don't even have to be all that deep to inspire people. At an incredibly low point in my life, when I felt like I was spinning my wheels, unable to achieve what I felt was my true potential, I went to see Blue Crush.
Just a single line from that movie was the jolt I needed to understand what I was waiting for and what was holding me back. I took off like a rocket and haven't looked back since. Sure, I've encountered other brick walls and hurdles since then, but it's amazing how many times a single line from a movie or TV show can be the match that lights the fuse that gets me beyond what's stopping me.
After twelve years of freelance writing and graphic design, I am returning to my first love. Powerful storytelling through drama.
